A shutter that won't run electrically gets blamed on the motor far more often than the motor deserves. A blown capacitor, a failed control box, a worn key switch or limits that have drifted will all produce exactly the same symptoms — and all cost a fraction of a motor replacement.

Our engineers test the supply, the control gear and the capacitor before touching the motor, so you're not paying for a part that wasn't the problem. When the motor genuinely has gone, we say so and replace it properly, sizing it correctly for the weight of your curtain rather than fitting whatever is nearest.

How do I know if my roller shutter motor has failed?
The classic signs are a shutter that hums or clicks but doesn't move, one that stops part-way and won't restart, or one that still works fine on the manual override while the electric controls do nothing. If manual works and electric doesn't, the fault is almost always electrical.
Can a roller shutter motor be repaired or does it need replacing?
Often the motor itself is fine and the fault is the capacitor, the control box, the key switch or the limit settings — all cheaper fixes. Where the motor windings or the brake have genuinely failed, replacement is the only sensible option.
How much does a shutter motor replacement cost?
It depends on the size and weight of the shutter, the motor type and whether it's an out-of-hours callout. We give you the callout rate on the phone and confirm the parts cost on site before any work starts.
Do you carry motors on the van?
We carry the common tubular and side-mounted motors and capacitors, so a large share of motor failures are fixed on the first visit. Unusual or very heavy-duty units may need ordering, and we'll tell you straight away if that's the case.
My shutter stops part-way up — is that the motor?
Sometimes, but it's just as often the limit switches drifting out of adjustment, or an obstruction making the motor cut out on overload. Resetting limits is a quick job; we check that before condemning a motor.
Can you replace a motor on a shutter you didn't install?
Yes. Most of our motor work is on shutters fitted by someone else, including obsolete systems where we source or adapt a modern replacement motor to suit.
