Why Guides Fail

Small Damage,

A guide only needs to be a few millimetres out for the slat ends to catch. Once they catch, the motor keeps pulling, the curtain distorts and what started as a knocked rail becomes a bent bottom bar and a damaged barrel.

Catching a guide problem early — a graunching noise, a curtain that runs slightly crooked, resistance at one point in travel — keeps it a cheap repair.

Why does my shutter jam at the same point every time?
That's a classic guide fault — a bend, a build-up of debris or a corroded patch at that height in the channel. It won't clear itself and it gets worse each cycle.
Can a bent guide rail be straightened?
Often yes, if the steel hasn't been torn or badly kinked. Where it has, we manufacture and fit a replacement rail rather than bodging it.
Can I clean the guides myself?
You can clear loose debris and lightly lubricate the channel with a suitable spray. Don't use heavy grease, which collects grit and makes things worse.
A forklift has clipped our guide — is the shutter still safe?
Not necessarily. Even light impact damage can cause the curtain to run out of line, which loads the motor and can lead to the curtain coming out of the guides entirely. Get it checked.
How long does a guide repair take?
Most are completed in one visit. A full guide replacement on a large industrial opening may need a return with the fabricated parts.
Will servicing prevent guide problems?
Largely, yes. Cleaning and lubricating the guides is a core part of a service, and it's the single cheapest thing you can do to extend shutter life.
